Here's a pic I took from a bus as we were coming down from the top of Haleakala Crater, Maui, Hawaii. There are a number of companies that offer bike tours down from the top of the crater - elevation 3000m. This group was stopped a short distance from the summit.

Post porcessing was mainly adjustment of the shadows in the RAW converter to enhance the silhouette.

Shot with D70 - 17-55mm at f2.8 1/1250s.

IMHO I would crop th etop cloud. It gives it the more of the "on top of the world" feel

This is pretty damn cool! Not only the clouds but the silhouetting works brilliantly. However, I agree that the top cloud is a bit superfluous and the shot would be improved by cropping it out.

What Mal and Ladybird said!!! (yeah - crop just at the bottom edge of the upper layer of cloud)

I think a I prefer the cloned version but I do appreciate the "ethical" issue involved with such pp'ing.

I love the Hawaiian hills!! Or any near the equator for that matter.

I like the cloned version. Not because it removes something, but for what it adds.

The human eye sees things, and our brian filters differently over a photo, to real life (being there).

Being there, I would stare in awe at the layers of clouds. In the first unedited shot, I stare more at the dark layer. Cloning it out makes sense here, and I dont think is pushing the boundaries at all, just helping the image represent the amazement of the sky that high up. PS: my editor yesterday pointed out my US influence in the use of "and, ..." sorry if this bothers those in here, its from my background, and I'll try to stop doing it...

Actually having suggested the crop at the start of this thread I now must confess that I like the clone best!

It really makes it feel that you are even higher up.
