Pavlova

Recently it was my wife's 30th Birthday. She just looooves Pavlova. People told me that a Pav is a hard thing to make, especially for the first time, so I thought I would have a go at making one for her (it can't be that hard ... surely :) )

Once it was cooked, I thought I would take some photos (proof, bragging rights, who knows ). I worked out I could dial down the built-in flash on the D50, so it wouldn't be a white burnt-out flash in the middle. All of these shots, have had the flash dialed down to -2 or -3

Taken with the Kit lens (please excuse cooking trays that look a bit grubby) - I don't think the Women's Weekly will be beating down my door for a stock photo just yet ...

Taken with my new 50 1.4 (at 1.4 - hence the reason for the OOF at the back - not the best way to shoot a cake I know - now ... :?)

Also taken with the 50 1.4 at f1.4 - All lit up - no signs of Fire trucks yet.

Also taken with the 50 1.4 at f1.4. My wife

I think I did alright . Even the mother-in-law enjoyed it 8)

I would love any comments or criticism.

Thanks for looking.

Russell - my first bit of advice is not to open up to 1.4 if u have the assistance of flash, especially when shooting people. Way too narrow DOF as you have discovered - some nice memories created here though despite that :)
