While I was at the Australia Day events at Parramatta Park, I checked out some of the flyball racing exhibitions - basically it's the thing where 2 teams of 4 dogs race.... They have to jump over 4 hurdles, hit a launcher that spits out a tennis ball, grab it, turn and then go back through the hurdles, whereupon the next dog goes, relay style. Very fast paced, and tough to shoot. I only had a borrowed 70-210 with me, which is not the fastest focusing lens and even though is pretty sharp, needs to be stopped down to f/8 for best quality.

Damn hard to shoot from side on too, even with the D200's 5fps burst shooting, it's all too easy to miss the doggies as they sprint through. I had better luck when I moved more into a "head-on" position. This is my best of the 10 minutes' shooting.

Certainly looks like fun, the border collies would excel at something like this. Great action shot, just a shame about the person at the back holding the dog.

Cheers,
