Water macros...

Hi all,

I have been playing with some macros of water lately to try and find something arty to put on my wall. Here's some shots which I'm quite happy with. All taken with the Tamron 90mm macro lens... using an SB800 off camera and bounced from behind... and changing background materials to get the colours I was after.

the last one is my fav!
i would just clone the imperfection about 3/4 towards the bottom of the long water drop.
otherwise i love them all

All absolutely stunning. Your shots were making me lust after that lens, now I'm scared to get it and realise I have no chance of making such beautiful images!!!

The first is my favourite I think, mostly becasue I like red! What is going on the second one? Water running over a surface.

I'd be happy to hang any of those on my wall.

Great shots Mark. Agree about the last one. But I think I like the first best, something about the colour.

The second one is just water running veritcally but closer to 1:1. The reflections of the background I was using have caused some pretty cool textures.

What settings were you using for #3?

they are great shots but i can not decide which is my fav colour in the first is awesome the pattern in the second is mesmorising and the third is just awesome

Try the same angle for #3, but now using SB800 onboard and at repeating flash at high rate (about 50-100Hz) It is very interesting results with that very specific angle!!

Very well done, makes me wanting to revisit some of my water shots as well.

#3 is my pick of the bunch, nice composition and colours... #2 is a bit too abstract for my liking

They are magnificent shots! Because they are what they are meant to be - arty pictures. I would leave them just as they are wihout retouching them too much because you don't want them to look too artificial. I only hope you can print them to the desired size without loosing the sharpess and colour intensity. You made me jelaous, congratulations!

Yep... the red one works best for me as a piece of art...
Can I suggest Mark, that the 3rd shot, which is less arty but still quite nicely done, is let down by the reflection in the large round droplet.
A little careful P&P might sort this... but it might be difficult without it being obvious in a large print. Just a thought.

The red shot is absolutely eye catching, would make a prefect piece of art work for a suitable room.
