A fight of greed....

These aren't great photos or technically correct due to very short breaks in the rain, however, I found the little 'story' of life and death quite interesting as I watched it unfold.

We have had quite a bit of rain over the last day, and I found a group of larvae sitting on a blade of grass just above the water line where we had some minor flooding. There were thousands of these little critters which I'm guessing must be mosquito larvae (?).

For some reason two ants decided to fight over who gets to have a feed, even though the food supply was quite plentiful.

They fought for about 10 minutes or so until one of the ants drowned the other ant in the puddle of water.

The little performances which nature performs are amazing if you give her a moment of your time to sit quietly and watch.

cheers

Not Mosquito larvae, but that being said I don't know what they are larvae of.
Neat story of real life.
