Insidious war remnants

This scene broke my heart at the land mine museum. This young boy lost his leg to a mine, but now makes a living from showing tourists around the facility. That is a defused land mine at his feet.

Steve - some confronting, yet excellent photojournalistic imagery here. Thanks for sharing.

Agreed, powerful and confronting, reminds me of Zimbabwe and Zambia (my old home).
The only thing i'm not sure about is the PP, i think a very contrasty B&W conversion could have been more effective on all of them. The selective color and the red/sepia tones are not for me. Maybe a partial desat with lots of contrast could have also worked well.

I would have liked to see more of the boy in the second photo. I think seeing his face (not smiling) would improve the impact of the photo and allow us to see and perhaps feel the heart wrenching feelings you did. I am not sure about the colourisation of the landmine though, the colours make it look benign to me.

I think the red is a little too bright for the third photo, If the red was a little duller it would fit with the B&W tones more. But I like the way you've made it stand out. I understand these signs are all over the country, such a travesty.

Your "live" ammunition would have been better shot from the other angle, it is clear here that it is not live at all (note the firing pin indentation on the primer in the back of the case). The B&W treatment really suits it though!

Some truly wonderful photos though they do bring home the continuing misery that plagues the people of the country.

Thanks for the feedback on this shot. I was thinking about this image tonight (after a few weeks!)and decided to rework it to get a an image with more grit.

Let me know what you think
