I went and bought myself a Tamron SP AF Tele-Converter 300F-FNs x2 and then I went out and tested it in windy blustery conditions on an overcast day! These are the results using my 80-400mmVR.

Image

Shutter Speed: 1/250 sec
Exposure Program: Aperture Priority
F-Stop: f/5.6
ISO: 200
Focal Length: 400mm + x2 TC
Metering mode: Spot

Image

Shutter Speed: 1/100 sec
Exposure Program: Aperture Priority
F-Stop: f/7.1
ISO: 200
Focal Length: 400mm + x2 TC
Metering Mode: Spot

Any C&C welcome! I think I need a clearer day! Was surprised that the AF still worked aswell using the x2 TC.

I personally tend to use shutter priority when using my 200mm + x2 converter. This way I can minimise camera shake by using a speed of around 1/1000th sec or more :)

Yeah I normally do aswell but decided to try aperture priority! But tomorrow I am going back out to try again! Hopefully with better light!!! Thanks for the tip.

First one seems a tad dark to me, though uncalibrated LCD so who really knows. Second is a bit soft, though hardly surprising at 35mm equivalent of 1200mm (assuming you have a 1.5 crop with your sensor) and 1/100th!

Having said that, it looks like the kit is doing well and I see some real potential to get some great shots with it.
