Sunrise Final Edition - I couldnt resist!

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. The photos have all been great, Dan, my only question is, does the poor model know how to close her mouth?

I won't punch you, but in all honesty im getting a bit tired looking at the extra accessories that she is wearing eg :bikini top and bottom. They are too distracting IMHO :D

I really like them, and thanks for sharing.

I like the even lighting you are getting, from knee to overhead. Lighting has good form, looks like a single light source just over camera?

Interested to hear your comments on your light diffuser technique, as I have similar outdoor shoots coming up, and for that I will be limited to a few SB800s (or more powerful Metz hammer head) flash.

It would be very helpful if you could explain lighting on number 3?
Device?
Distance to subject?
Location with reference to Camera?
Bounce, or difused?

thanks in advance!

Ok...look as i have said before i am still scratching my bum and bumping into walls when it comes to this photography game.....so...with that in mind i did have one thing i think work for me, that was dying batteries....it was throwing out inconsistant flash.....therefore lighting the subject up just enough in some, but pushing it in others....lol.technical i know...i used my SB800 (all different EX Compensation levels) with a inflatable dome difusser on top. 17-55DX 2.8 Nikon lens (now my fav) and sometimes i had the setting on "P" for perfect..lol. Shot in RAW and compensated for all my cock ups.....honest, yes entirely!

I also bounced the flash where i could and metered for the sky and held the exposure lock button once i had the right look i wanted then adjusted the flash.

Example.....this shot was severly under exposed, but with some trickry in PP i managed to get my fav shot from the shoot to date!

Image

Hope that helps.....

thanks, I appreciate your feedback, it helps!

I could see how the 17-55 would be a favourite, perhaps you can sell it to me when you move to Canon kit ;-)

Errm, what's that saying - never look a gift horse in the ... ? ;-)

That seems to be the key here - bounced flash seems (generally) to deliver much more natural light, assuming the surface is appropriate - I've had a lot of success in the past few days with test shots bouncing over my shoulder - no shadows, etc, I like it.
