Hill Climb Crash Sequence (DUW)

Sorry about the 'more than 3-4 images' rule and the tiny watermark (I'm selling these images).

Caught this sequence at the NSW Hill Climb Championship, at Mount Panorama.

The D2h performed well again. 8 shots a second is great for this stuff!

The car is a Nissan GTR, and suffered a bit of suspension damage and who knows what else. I spoke to the owner who was realistic about the prang. He siad, "Oh well, now I don't have a nice car, I have a race car."

No injuries to driver either.













There is a few more to the sequence, but they add nothing. Full size the images are really sharp, you can count the concrete and paint chips.

Not really for C&C, mainly to show someone elses misfortune. But pleae comment if you want to!!

Did the driver knock the rearview mirror off headbutting it as in looks in the 3rd shot??
Or did it just fall off.

Must have knocked it off with helmet. I was surprised how much she was thrown around inside the vehicle, considering she was wearing a seat belt. Guess she needed a five point harness.

I didn't notice before, but I have different sized watermarks. Thats annoying!

Yeah i was suprised at how far she moved.. eg headbutting the rear view mirror

harnesses would have helped i guess..

give a great insight into to the forces during the crash.

you can spend heaps on a nice car but doesnt mean u have a clue how to drive it...understeering on a track with a GTR 4WD = noob.. ..Great pics ...right place right time

I used to kind of admire people who would go all out on a race track without a proper harness and roll cage. But then I turned 12 and started racing and changed my mind.

It's kinda like freeclimbing... it looks cool as long as you don't think about it too much.

Thanks for the comments folks. It was just a case of right place, right time, right camera, right lens and right settings. All I did was hold down a button

Jeff, when they do the hill climb, they go the wrong way through the Esses, up instead of down. That being said, tomorrow they use Mountain Straight, so I WILL find us some good spots (of course, you'll need media accred to get there )

In fairness to the driver, both her and her husband drive the car (very well I might add). It doesnt have a five point harness cause it's also a road car, and they are not permitted in road cars. The corner where she lost it is the old 'dipper' in the Esses, most accidents on this hill climb happen here as the rear inside wheel often lifts from the ground and you lose rear end traction.

Good point. Maybe some kind of exclusion? I'm fairly certain you need a 'lap sash' type of belt. Oh well, another of lifes mysteries.

Thanks for the comments folks. I'm extremely happy with this camera. At this stage I can see another coming on to replace my D70s. I don't think I need a D2x yet (what am I saying.... )
