Hi folks,

Just a few more hill climb images.

I've taken plenty of 'bullseyed' panning shots over the weekend, and I am trying to offer customers images with a more professional, magazine, quality to them.

Please feel free to comment, I appreciate your time!

1.) The 'Spectre' of Noel Porter.



2.) The SVC of Peter Gumley. Previous Australian Champion and current NSW Champion. (He wants some images from me for sponsorship, so we'll see how that pans out).



3.) The 351GT of Mark WINTER



This one was taken at 1/25, handheld, manual. It isn't meant to be sold or even sharp. Curious to hear what anyone may have to say about it. It is ALL intentional! I was trying to capture the hectic pace of hill climbing.

2 is a standout... absolutely perfect in every way Alan.

If I can achieve this sort of quality in the future, i'll be very satisfied.

Looks like you had a good day and you really have a handle on the new body.
I like the angled shots, No 2 is a stand out, I also like the reflection in the helmet in the first one.

Jeff, the third image is the spot I sms'ed you about, if we can get up there for the motor festival we'll be laughing. There are many different angles for shots to be had.

1 and 2 are fantastic. 3 doesn't work as you probably already realise

1. I like the detail you've picked, the fact that the car is cut off in all parts of the frame add to the fact that you've chosen to zoom in. The detail in the decals, the helmet (specially the mirrored visor) add to this immensely, as does the separation from the background! You still get the feeling of motion via the tyre treads.

2. Whilst open wheelers tend not to show as much attitude as a normal car I think you've captured it well, the angle of the car with the angle of the drivers helmet add to the fact that it is at speed! The heat haze just above the rear wing adds to it.

I would be interested to hear the shutterspeed on both of these.

Number 3 I think would work from a magazine point of view if something was in focus Even if it was just the nose cone of the car (hard to do intentionally). But in these shots where the car is blurred I think you need the background static and sharp. Gives the reverse look of speed. Although in saying that there is some appeal to this shot, I think if you managed the use of flash (rear curtain) to have a sharp freeze of the car with the ghosting it would look truly awesome.

Thanks for the comments, 3 is something difficult for me. There are things I like about it, and things I dont. I can't make up my mind.

I'm trying to give people media type shots, I think they like the image to look like it's out of Auto Action or something similar.

Speaking of that, I contacted Hill Climb NSW and offered them some images, which they very happily agreed to. I have agreed to let them use my images for free, as they have offered to have a link from their website to my gallery. Also, they are having 2 articles in upcoming editions of Auto Action (2 weeks running) and have asked me to contact AA so they can use my images in the articles.

Fairly happy with that! All publicity is worth something.
