Good shots Matt.

1.

Nice slow shutter spped, maybe about the 1/125? Nice panning skills. You've got a bit of a blown highlight on the rear quarter panel, but I've been looking at a few of the cars this year, thinking what a bugger they will be to photograph. Judging by the shadows, was this image taken around lunch time? The light is usually very harsh. I like the pics a lot though!

2.

Good cimages. Front cars seems nice and sharp, with the detail inside easily visible. Luck or good planning to get the two together?

3.

Nice indeed, Great colours. Front of the car is nice and sharp, with the rear OOF. Oblique panning is very difficult, and you seem to have it nicely done. I would maybe be tempted to rotate the image abit to add another dimension of movment, but thats just me. Trent will kill me for saying it! Well done!!

4.

Good timing on the engine braking. Nice panning again. Pity about the ford sign growing out the tail, but that could be cloned out.

Nice shots all round. I was hoping to see some images after watching the race today!

1st is great, that pan has to be 1/100 or so yeah? Very well executed!

2 is cool because you have the team together as they lead the race, but there's no sense of speed at all, 1/250 shutter would add a little motion without loosing sharpness of cars perhaps.

3 didnt really do too much for me

4 is a great pan, with the added bonus of unburnt fuel doing it's thing

yep.... number 1 is taken about 1/80-1/100.

2 was cool just because i was lucky enough to get the 2 cars there like that. I usually dont ever freeze action like that anymore, but i look in hte papers and what the "pros" do and they all seem to freeze action, but its so easy and boring. I personally think its very cheap.

3 is my favourite shot, just because of how hard it is to get a shot of a car moving in that direction sharp at 1/200. Nothing special really, but i like it.

No media accred at the v8's as i was i think you need to be cams accreditated or with channel 7. Maybe next year!

I don't think these are up to your usual standard Matt, not having a go here just giving my first impression based on your other photos from previous events. They just don't seem as vibrant nor do they pop like they normally do, could be something to do with the time of day they were taken though. Still great work, nothing can take that fact away from you.

My favourite out of the four is definitely the third one, I know just how hard this angle is to get and you really grabbed it well.

The first, is a great example of panning work, but the image just doesn't pop on my screen like your images usually do.

The second is great to see the two together, but I agree with you, I too hate the static look that freezing the action gives, however this one is saleable in today's world.

The forth I would have liked a slower shutter on, however this is nice and sharp and you get a great sense of movement. The addition of the Ford sign in the background adds to the impression that the car is higher at the back and under some heavy braking which the flame adds too.

Looks like it was a hot dry day over there too.

Not sure what you mean by lacking "pop" and vibrance? Do you think its just lacking some depth, or is it a color thing?

I agree, those side on shots arnt the most interesting, but when the car is moving like that you can really slow the shutter speed right down for some cool lookin effects.

I think it is the colour representation on the cars. It seems somewhat flat and lifeless to me. If you note the colours and how lively they are on the front on number 3, compare that to the blue on number 1.

On second thoughts it could be just the harshness of the midday light I am seeing here that is playing havoc with the way the colours are represented, but with your usual images the colours of the car, where the reflectivity and vibrancy just jump at me compared to the backgrounds. They do here to a certain degree, but not as much and I do think that may have something to do with the light...

Hope this helps to clarify my comments. PS I still think they are great images!
