help to decide...

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

Hello all,

Next month i will give an interview to a magazine for my upcoming short film and i would like some help -if it's possible- to decide about the version of the photo i'll give to the magazine.

Taken from a friend of mine with his 5d and pp'ed from me.

The two versions:

The second one. The cooler tone looks better. But i guess it depends what the short film is about and how you want to portray yourself as an artist.

I prefer #1, the blue tone in #2 is just too much for my taste...great portrait either way.

Another vote for #1 but I had to look back and forth a few times to make the decision, perhaps somewhere in between might work ?

Just to be difficult: I prefer the warmer skin tones of the first, but the cooler background of the second. If you mixed the two you would have an interesting tonal contrast, but I'm not sure if that is what you were after.
So join in the chorus, and sing it one and all!

I like the first as is, the color warmth in the face, and background blend. THe second one, to me, looks like you have desaturated the background.

#1 for me.

My five cents worth...

It is an excellet photograph, but I like the first one because it is wormer. The second one has too much blue for my liking. :D

Many many thanks for your answers!

I have made a third, maybe something between the two..

Maybe this would work better?

Killakoala is right. It depends on how i want to portray myself, but this is a very tough question :)

I have uploaded some stills of my upcoming short without the final colour correction here

thanks a lot for seeing,

As you say the colour correction isn't done in those images from the short film, but going on the content of those I'd go with the first one. I think the warmer tones suit it better.
