All taken at the Docklands with the 70-200 f2.8 IS. Damn I love this lens.

The first one for me. After seeing the second two the treatment works better on the first and the pose is one I would expect from someone singing a ballad style of song not really Ella, but that is beside the point I like this photo, it shows a different angle that we normally wouldn't see.

Was this actually Killing Heidi or just Ella on her own?

The lighting (coloured) doesn't quite work in second one for me and the captured pose is awkward.

The pose and angle in the third seem to suit the lighting better, but the pink tones just don't scream Ella to me, mind you it could be the fact that the blonde tresses just don't suit her either...

Morning Brett. Appreciate the time taken for the critique and feedback.

It was actually Ella and Jesse doing an acoustic performance. In my eyes as I was taking the photos, I realised how much Ella had grown and matured as a young woman and as a performer. I understand where you are coming from as I had the misperception that she would still be grungy due to their image from the past. Ella has been doing theatre work as well - she was in a play/musical recently as well in Melbourne.

I think I'll work through the rest with this treatment and see how I go.

They're all good, but the first one is brilliant. She's quite photogenic, can she sing?. :)

No1 - This isnt to bad....although a straight B & W would be better (less the silver/gelatin tones)IMHO
No2 - Needs much more saturation for mine....
No3 - Ditto above

All in all nice strong images........

Cheers

Thanks for the comments everyone. Not sure how she looks like Charlize but I guess so... :?

Tried the straight black and white, but felt this provided more of a different mood than a straight mono.

Worked out why it has less saturation - I saved it in aRGB as I keep working in that mode now.

As a performance photo, it's got to be #3.

But there's an air of whimsy about #2 which is what makes that one so attractive.

#1 has a level of emotion that mnakes it a good performace shot ... but not as good, for me, as #3.

One other point - #3 has both of her hands and arms in full; they've been cut off in the other two. Easy for me to be critical of this minor aspect post-shoot, but they're exactly the sorts of things that sometimes you might need to think about when shooting. Not easy to get either, all the time.

Great stuff, Wayne.

Thanks Gary. Definitely one thing I have to look out for is missing arms :)
