I got a chance to do another wedding and this time was much easier than the last, in particular because the couple wanted lots of photos taken, so I didn't feel like I was getting in the way on their day.

It was a love job - no money changing hands so I didn't feel a great deal of pressure. However, they were still relying on me to get take the photos and I checked numerous times to make sure I hadn't lost the filled flash card!

Anyway, it was a beautiful day.

Nice! I want to get into this eventually! Three would be great if the bride had a nice smile, she seems a bit worried

I've thought about it - but I enjoy having my weekends. Maybe eventually when I have kids and stuff and I need some time to myself I might think about doing it

It was a good experience though. I have another shot of her coming out of the car - it's on an angle and she's looking much happier

Some lovely shots there Owen. If they are like the rest of your shoot from the day then you should be proud of your efforts. Weddings aren't easy, but when you get the shots and then you see a resultant happy bride and groom it really makes it all worth while. Well done sunshine!

Owen, overall some nice shots, but I'm not a big fan of your black and white conversion in #1. You seem to have brought out the red tones in her skin and it's making her look very grey. Not sure what method you used but there are plenty to try, so perhaps have a go at another one...

I'd also have a go at removing some of the shine on the groom's face in #4.

Otherwise, quite nice.

Yeah I got a few wide angle ones of the beach wedding, nothing very inspiring though - just as a record of what the scene was like. I'll post more a bit later.

some more images added - I'd appreciate some comments regarding the processing on these ones, I'll just link to them rather than post them inline. Processing included a reduced opacity gaussian blur layer, which had been desaturated and in some cases increased contrast.

Padey, if you're using firefox, you can get an extension called FxIF which allows you to right click and view "properties" or all intact exif data. Owen's data is intact. Very handy little tool.

the bubble shot is great the lift is soft and the exposure and moment captured nailed, your best shot

the shot with the bride and bridesmaids is good too but i dont think you needed to shoot that at f9 it looks dark and underexposed shots dont do skintones justice
f4.5 would be enough dof for that shot at that range
but you can easily brighten it up

as for bride and groom shot front on flash increases the incidence of highlight on wet(sweaty) faces one way to soften that effect is to use a bounch card or bounch flash or put a huge difusser on your flash

Group shots need DoF, but this isn't a really big group, and f9 is underexposing the image a bit. This is causing the background to be virtually non existent and the third bridesmaid to be a shadow of her real self.

Without lifting the ISO you really need to tripod these images. 1/50th is about as slow as you want to go hand held, until you risk entering camera shake. As such they are underexposed. Sometimes tripods just get in the way, so setting your camera up on a table for a several second exposure can result in good images.

This is a fantastic candid image. Regarding the crop. I gather the final result for this image will be print. So a 4:3 ratio will save headaches. One thing i found when printing the fred hollows images is what passes on web can be poor vision corrected by crop, as such can cause pain in print. In this case it's good vision, and my guess is you saw it, moved as fast as you could to get the shot before she stopped blowing bubbles. Sometimes at weddings you can't press the shutter fast enough. But if that is the final destination for these images, you should keep that in mind when PP. I mention this because i notice this crop in an earlier image.

Regarding the image itself, if you bumped the ISO you could have pulled back the flash and captured a bit of more ambient light.

Thanks wendell and padey for the comments and help. As was mentioned above there are highlights on a few portraits despite me using the lightsphere on all shots. It is something that I myself don't see when reviewing the images, but your trained eyes do - so thanks for pointing it out

The shot with the 3 ladies was shot at f9 to get it as sharp as possible (4.5 on the kit lens isn't very sharp) and also to get them all in focus as the lens was at 70mm, and f 4.5 would have probably rendered the 2 bridesmaids out of focus. As it was the last one was starting to get a bit soft at f9.

Padey, my final destination for the images is a wedding album where we will probably cut the images to be similar to the cropped web shots, but thanks for pointing them out. By the way, wouldn't a 2:3 be better if I was printing them 4 x 6?

I appreciate the time taken to review the images and comment on how they can be better.
