Well it's been a while since my last group of NZ pics so here are some shots taken of the volcanic area in Tongariro National Park. These were all taken during a flight over the area.

I'm a bit undecided about this last one since it's pretty tightly cropped at the top (nothing but clouds with VERY blown highlights, but I couldn't force myself to toss the shot since I like the detail in the crater.

They are all fantastic. Volcanoes really interest me and you've captured them brilliantly.

I'm always too cheap to pay for a plane ride when in NZ.

These are great shots Peter, they look awesome.

Only thing I would change is crop out a bit of the sky in the first one. The focus is the lake and surroundings and the sky does not add that much to it, IMHO,

thanks for sharing,

André

That is too good!! Makes me want to travel :P

I'm amazed how the shot at f/2.8 of the lens still showed up with THAT sharpness, how much USM did you applied there Peter?

Impressive. Nice to see the area from the air. Certainly a different perspective from what you see on the ground.

Peter,

These are fantastic shots. Number 2 is my pick here - just so sharp and the colours and textures, and layers are drawing.
Lovely.

Great stuff Peter. The flight was obviously worth it as these four shots alone show.

Agree with André about the sky in the first shot.

Cheers, Mick :) :) :)

Beautiful work Peter. I think the first image could do with a tad of light around the lake....but great captures! Framers!

These have had very little sharpening. I shot these all at f 2.8 for one very simple reason. I wanted the fastest possible shutter speed since the plane (a Twin Otter) bounced all over the shop and I wanted to minimise my chance of a blurred shot due to movement. Given my subject was a fair way off the DOF tradeoff was not a factor so for me 2.8 was a no brainer.
