Dobroyd Point & Clontarf Reserve
Posted: Sat Apr 07, 2007 12:11 amMrs Reschsmooth & I decided to go for a Good Friday driver locally, and headed up to the point overlooking Manly and the heads, and then to Clontarf.
The clouds were fantastic (at about 4pm or so).
The problem is, I feel my ability to take a decent lansdcape shot is regressing - I am finding it difficult to convert an image in my mind to one in my memory card.
Either:
1. I am expecting too much when I am shooting directly west in the late afternoon to try to get both foreground exposure and detail in the sunlit clouds.
2. I am not proficient enough in photoshop to be able to use multiple layers to extract detail from both shadow and highlights. All I have been using here are gradient overlay layers.
3. I just need more practice.
The shot of the ferries was taken with a high ISO, hence the noise.

I call this one "Ferries playing chicken"
The other point is that these photos printed out really dark. Does this sound like a problem with monitor calibration or something else?
