sun dial

Took this yesterday at the royal botanic gardens, wondering if this shot works or not, c&c welcome.

I like it, but I'm not 100% sold on the crop.. the crop is so tight most major elements lead out of the shot for me.
For example, the shadow runs out of shot, as does the upright that makes the shadow (out of shot in 2 directions.) also the bottom edge of the dial isn't included.
All that said I do like the concentric circles of the dial, it lends a certain repetition to the shot.

I tend to agree with craig, however I think if you crop in a tad from the right, just enough to remove the light top right corner and have the shadow go to the edge of the image it removes the vertical line out of the image, and makes the shadow more of a divider than a path out of the image.
Just looking at the shot in the topic review it has it's top cut off down to the shadow, that actually works as well as a real detail shot. In any case Id have a tinker with some crops to make the image stronger.

agree with Craig and Dawesy. I would clone out or darken the small amount of bird shit that's white...

.. Just being picky.. otherwise I quite like the shot although not strong enough on it's own, could easily be part of a photo essay..
