Two "story" shots from the "Firebox Photo Event" at Maitland steamfest. I have lots more from Steamfest to process but these are two early standouts which to me asked for quite different treatments despite the similar subject matter and timeframe.

Great stuff! where did the light came from for the steam? Or that is plain sunlight?

#2 is better, but I like the fact that on the 2nd viewing of #1 I saw a ghost
Completely missed the guy in there when I first looked.
Heard some trains tooting this arvo and was wondering at the unusual horns. Finally worked out it was the steamfest. Had forgotten about it, and I was meaning to take some shots in the morning.

I like them both, I think #1 is the better of the two (against the grain), but #2 is a fine shot as well.

Peter,
Great work. Crop #2 on the bottom, leaving the light and shade on the ground where the lisght is coming in from the left: crop immediately below where that light ends on the bottom right.
Let me know what you think.

Great shots Peter,
love them both. I'll also put my voice to cropping the bottom of #2. The water reflection takes your eyes away just a bit from the "action".
It was a great day at Steamfest and the Firebox event was great time, even if the trains were late getting there.
Yip, they had big floodlights as this was around 9:30pm.
Thanks for organising the outing Peter. Hope you got some good shots on Sunday.
cheers,
André

Two great shots,
My preference is for #1, I like the atmosphere (?) eerie feel about it.
Any photo that makes me look into it to find the detail and vague subjects I think is a good photo.
Cheers Rick.

Thanks you all for the feedback. I purposely didn't point out the man in #1 to see if he stood out enough to make the image work. It would seem some saw him and some didn't. As for cropping #2 I prevaricated over that too and will go back and have a play and repost here

I have liked all of these Peter. They have that awsome other worldly feel to them. Just a bit creepy but not overly so.
Regards Colin

It looks like this was a great meet.
#2 is definately the better one here as already said it has a defined point of interest. Your treatment (as usual) is excellent Peter.
The 3rd one is even better. This has a very nostaglic feel to it.
