Have been away from the internet for about 10 days. Took these at the Easter show a few weeks ago. I was a long way from the action but boy oh boy the 70-200 L lens sure is a lot of fun, even in tricky light.

1st shot is great, I guess it deserves a tighter crop, too much background distractions.

I really like the last shot. just what were they all looking at? Even the guy with that axe is looking at something.

Good question Neil, actually it was the final of the world championship tree felling event, the one where you climb up 3 boards and chop the top off the hardwood post.

The fellow in view had just won the event, the top of the log he felled is in view as it falls. He and everyone else were looking at several of the other competitors to see who was going to finish second. Why you ask? Even thought he was the backmarker, he finished way ahead of the others.

'Twas a pity that Dave Foster wasn't able to compete this year.

I think maybe this is a much more interesting shot...

i find the background distracting on all shots...but the facial expression on the last one is a ripper...mebbe a tighter crop on that one would make it a ripper!

agree, love to see a crop, portrait orientation, perhaps try even as tight as down the middle of the gents in black shirts.

Think that would bring out the flight of the block a little better.

just what i was thinking. cut out all the distraction and leave you with the great expression and the moment of the block falling!

Will take these suggestions on board. The image is already heavily cropped as I was a long way from the action. I actually like the background action in this instance, in fact it was impossible to get a non-cluttered shot at the wood chopping.
