Lone Monk

I'm in two minds as to whether I should trash this image or not. I like the idea, but the subject is too far/ insignificant and the whole image looks too contrasty/ busy. I tried to use selective colour (I normally hate it) to emphasize the main subject, but I do not think it works either. Would be good to hear honest thoughts.

Alex, it works for me. The image would only need to be A4 for the monk to really show up. I might be tempted to clone the aerials in the sky out

Thanks, Glen. Good point about areals, I didn't even notice them till you mentioned. Now they are giving me the sh1ts

have you tried a pano crop from just above the shadow on the bridge.....

Don't doubt yourself. The selective colour doesn't work. Stick with the original B & W. If the viewer misses the monk it is their loss. IT's a fine image

Seriously, the colour doesn't work and I think it's a pretty reasonable photo anyway.

The colour doesn't work, but I agree with Bernie's pano crop suggestion. He has nailed it.
The monk doesn't need to be dominant; just there.

I agree that the colour doesn't work. If the monk was larger and more significant, I think the image would be much better. Unfortunately, I keep getting distracted by the vertical pole 1/3 in from the right edge. I think it's one of those situations/images where it's almost there, it has all the right elements, but doesn't quite make it (which accounts for about 99% of my shots
)

Alex, you've tried the other suggestions, how about one more.
Try a vertical crop eliminating the tall post on the right. It should put the monk in the rule of thirds position towards the top left.
