A few of my faves from the Butterfly Farm. I would have been in heaven with a macro lens. The time of these guys landing and then taking off again was pretty quick, so it wasn't an easy task to capture them.

A good job under the circumstances, Geoff.
Even though you had to use a relatively wide aperture, you have good detail, especially in #2.
The 17-55 DX is a fine lens.
Have you thought about cropping the pix? The resolution from the D200 should allow you to get rid of some of the extraneous material if you so choose.

Thanx Trevor.
Would u believe that both of these are already cropped? I agree that they could actually be done so a bit more but I liked having this much space around them to give more perspective. Appreciate your feedback

Hi Geoff,
Yes, I like both shots and believe it or not, I was going to suggest the same as Trevor re. cropping them.
Your lighting, composition and sharpness are good but maybe crop a tad more if you can, without losing too much quality.
Cheers
Michael

Bugeyes - available light wasn't too bad and I didn't have my SB800 with me at the time (wanted to travel light on this particular portion of our trip). I was forced to use the onboard flash which helped considerably. Definately worth a look though - it was great.

Love these pictures, I have tried to take photos of butterflies before in an enclosure with very limited success.
You have inspired me to try again!

Awesome photos Geoff - the use of flash in the 1st seems to have washed out some of the colour, but in the 2nd, everything has come out perfectly. Well done.
