I created a pinhole "lens" for my camera, here are the results after lots of trial and error. Both 30s at what I estimate to be somewhere between f/60 to f/120. The colour rendition is incredible as is the contrast and gradation between tones - if only I could get it sharper I would sell all my glass

Does anyone know how I can get the camera to take a light measurement for the shutter speed? I imagine it would be the same as using a lens that requires manual setting of the aperture.

Just set your camera to A and it should display the shutter speed, assuming its less than 30s, otherwise it will have Lo displayed...assuming its the same as my D70.

What size pinhole did you use? I think you should be able to get it a bit sharper with a very small hole. I did a few pinhole photos with my FE2s years ago and they were reasonably sharp, I just used Aluminium foil over the lens with a very fine pinprick hole.

The D70 cannot meter without a lens with meter coupled CPU.

It will refuse to fire the shutter at A mode if it cannot detect the lens, you need to use it on M mode in this instance.

I was talking about putting a pinhole over the lens, but as Yi-P says no metering without a lens

It defeats the point of calling it a 'pinhole' camera if you use a lens on top. The idea of pinholes are not to have an optical element but very small hole to concentrate light into the film plane (or sensor this case).

maybe, but pinhole *never* "concentrates" the light! A pinhole in front of the lens will give you a much smaller aperture than the lens can ever do, but yes, you do have the advantage of the lens focusing the light still.
In the same vein, using a digital camera sort of defeats the idea too, the original pinhole cameras used emulsion!
