I'm not sure if it is just because of the resizing for upload, but the halo around M&M's is off putting.
The image kind of lacks a real focus, the M and the main lolly needs to be razor sharp and it isn't. Also there seems to be two lots of reflections, one is from the flash and I suspect that the other is from room light. The flash light needs to be softer as well, the shadows are to harsh and there is what looks like a black hole in the in the middle of the 3 main lollies.
I would suggest that you have another go at this with some of the following thoughts. Use a light tent of some kind so you only get one lot of reflections, use a softbox or defuser to make the lighting more even. I would also try some different arrangements and a little more DOF, get in closer and make the M really stand out.
Sorry if I have been to brutal.

Not at all. It was a real rush job. had to be in by midnight last night, so i had bugger all time to get it right. Not having done this sort of thing before, I just threw the Red M&Ms on some A4 paper and shot with a desk lamp and the flash diffused through another sheet of A4 paper.
I see you are from Broken Hill. Im am out there in about 2 weeks. Any tips on the best places to go? Silverton obviously.

Are you going to be here for work or on holidays?
There are plenty of places to visit, Silverton for sure, but make sure you go out past Silverton to the Mundi Mundi plains, it's only about 5k's and if you can be there around sunset it can be magic.
Sadly one of the best tourist attractions we had has closed, Delprats was and underground tour of an old mine, unfortunatel it has been forced to close because the mine lease on which it is located has been reopened, so it became a victim of the resource boom.

Two things I can see from your last road trip, first is that is looks like and ball and second it's not hard to see that the M&M shot is a rush job cause most of the shots on the link are very good....

LOL. Thanks for that. I reckon its a damned side easier to take a landscape than try and set up lighting and stuff for those sort of staged shots.
