ES May - Contre-jour

PostPosted: Tue May 01, 2007 11:15 am

This months "Elements in Style" exercise is to capture a Contre-jour image

Contre-jour is a photographic term that means 'against the light' and refers to pictures taken when the camera is pointing towards (or roughly towards) the main light source. Silhouettes are a subset of the Contre-Jour style as you can have as much fill light as you want as long as the main light source is coming from in front of the camera

Wikipedia

There are no prizes for this exercise.
The first person to post a valid Contre-jour image gets to choose next months theme.

a sample I posted here from our first harbour walk is just one take on the style

Enjoy

I presume there are no restrictions on when the pic had to have been taken?

[new image pending.......................]

Great shot methd, well done.

I presume there are no restrictions on when the pic had to have been taken?

The original intent of when we started the Elements in Style was to have the photo taken during the current month. Then again, these are our rules and we can decide to change them if we please. :D

For me, I would vote for having the photo taken during the month that way, it gets us out taking photos.

Cheers,

André

That intent seems fine with me and I am happy to pull the photo posted (taken on Good Friday) for another one taken during May.

thanks for comments...

but i think it's in the best interest of this thread for the photos to be taken in the given month. otherwise everyone would look thru all their old pics to find something that fits the criteria... and that's not as fun as going out to take the photo with the direct topic in mind.

G'day

I guess we should also leave in the EXIF data as well, just to show that we're squeaky clean and we were *inspired* by the ES.

I must admit that when I see a comp or challenge my first thought is "Have I got ..." but that is just a precursor to the next thought which is invariably 'What can I do better this time?

I'm certainly at a point where my *best* photographs are ahead of me, not behind me.

I am not sure if this is ok, I just plonked a few things on an old map, and put a desk lamp in front.

No idea if it qualifies, but it's a great image. I'd love to have so much Indiana Jones-y stuff lying around :D

Could one of the MODS please sticky this thread. The forum is so busy that if you aren't on everday the Style ES just disappears and I for one find it really fun and entertaining

I am pretty slow processing my pics, so here is one from Byron... I wasn't sure if these had to be taken during the month in question....

Here's my installment, a grooming ibis at Featherdale park:

Image BTW, I think the ES threads should be sticky for their respective month, otherwise they get snowed under too quickly.

Cheers
Steffen.

Here's my contribution: it's at an angle to the sun, but the light source is the sun reflecting off the wall (does that count?). This was a very good EIS topic - one to really think about, even though the idea and execution of this shot was less than half a minute: I got out of my car and saw a jogger ahead of this guy whose shadow was chasing him, and had enough time to take out the camera before this guy hit sunlight.
