I put this image on another forum and got quite a few comments .......... here 60 lookers and not a word....... I guess it is not a car, bike or female........

I hadn't seen it before, BP.

But I really like it - strong composition and colour. I do think, though, that there are too many hot spots on the chillies.

Don't despair about lack of comments. Sometimes that's just the way of it. It doesn't devalue the image.

I've had similar things happen, and I would suggest most of us have.

If I think enough of one of my images to post it here, I don't really worry about lack of response. Sometimes people just enjoy a photo and don't make a comment.

Sorry BP, I know I don't always add comments when I see an image, alot of the time I look in passing and just admire and think I have to come back to that one. The problem is I forget to do just that, or I miss the thread when I jump back on. I think alot of people do that on here as well.

But your response has prompted me to take the time to respond!

I like the composition, I would like to see the shadow framing the whole bunch of chillies though, I think that might not look too bad. The number of highlights do detract a bit from the lower half for me. The Red is beautifully vibrant and shows the lustre of the fruit even when drying out (the stems have started to dry and lose colour in comparison)

I really like ther composition Bernie and I agree with Brett, though I find aspects of the blown highlights on parts of the chilli bunch somewhat distracting perhaps a little highlight recovery slide-fiddling in Lightroom might produce a less distracting effect yet maintaining the vibrance of the red in the chilli in tact.
Also I find the blocked shadow pattern in the top left and top right of frame slightly distracting and am left wondering if those irregular shadows where cloned out the shadow pattern behind the chillies would better frame the main subject and create better harmony in the image. Hope this makes sense Bernie and that , once again I haven't misinterpreted your intention in the creation of this fine image.

I like the concept, the composition and love the background shadows but the chillies are too harshly lit. However, I'm a sucker for red chillies! This is a subject I'm also going to play around with.

This is becoming a bit of a theme, your complaining about not getting enough response to an image you've posted.

Like the last one you complained about, I find this one unremarkable. I don't like the blown highlights, or the pedestrian composition. That's why I didn't comment before.

I have posted a number of images of late that have received zero or effectively zero responses - and yes, it can be frustrating at times. But when the forum can easily get 100+ new postings in a 12 hour period, it is easy for people to look and go past without making a comment unless the image is particularly strong or has particular critical issues [read 'flaws'] that more experienced minds can pass comment on.

Given the type of person I am, I have had a look at the number of posts/views on the IR&C thread, and, generally, it's not unreasonable to expect, on average, somewhere in the order of 1 comment for every 10 views - but this is an average, and one image can get 3 for every 10, and another 0. Stuff happens, and we just need to keep posting. At the end of the day, would you want 10 "Great image" posts or 1 "Composition could have been improved by this..., exposure could have been improved by this..., B&W conversion could have been improved by this... (you get the idea)?

While I can't speak for Digitor, I think he was venting some of the frustration felt by many members when people seem to take a lack of comments on their image personally.

Occasionally an image won't get very many comments. Sometimes you're just unlucky and the lack of comments won't necessarily reflect the quality of the image, but sometimes no comment is a form of critique in itself (albeit not a very helpful one).

If you really want a comment on an image that hasn't received (m)any, I don't think anyone would mind if give your image a friendly 'bump', but when you post with an accusatory tone inferring that your image has been deliberately ignored by the whole forum who are clearly all against you, it's no wonder you get some negative responses to that.

YOu cannot have it both ways, and when you make a post in the critiques section, it is entirely incorrect to expect only complementary posts.

It's great if that's what you get, but think about the process of criticising those who are offering their opinions when their opinions are exactly what you've asked for?

It's not logical.
