My wife and I cruised to NZ in December last year and this was taken as we arrived at the entrance to Milford Sound. Very cold, misty and drizzling rain, but isnt that normal for the south of NZ

D70 kit lens (18-70) hand held at 1/80th sec.

i think if the left hand side was cropped out, it would make a much stronger image, only because it is distracting and i dont see it serving any real purpose. with the crop i think the image would be great! give it a go and post up the result :)

Its a fantastic part of NZ there. We did the overnight cruise and it was also very wet and cold but on the upside it made for some fantastic waterfalls and also there was snow on the peaks which added to the beauty.

It's not a bad shot but i agree with NJ in that the boat does not add anything to the picture and should be cropped however this may make for an unusual aspect ratio.

first of all, what do you think?

i like it much better, and now i really focus on that lonely boat in the middle, creates a great scale for how big those cliffs are!

The horizon looks crooked to me, fixing it will make it look even better!

I'm thinking the opposite to NJ here.

I think the ship is a great part of the photo. If only you captured more of it. It gives me a better sense of proportion than just the little boat in the second picture. I think you should lose part of the right hand side of the photo, most of it is dead space i think and doesn't impart much of a story.

I think, if you crop a bit over 1/3 (almost half) of the right side of the second photo and a little bit from the left then it might look better.

would love to go to NZ one day :)
