Running for a train

Running for a train

Afternoon all,

last sunday's great run against the train was on and one of my mates entered the 13km course to race Puffing Billy to Emerald.

in short i did not see him but i was there to take a couple of photos of the event.

i think i will head back and re-shoot the train image as i am not entierly happy with it.

I like the first one, actually - the effect of the steam and the bridge places the train apart from the remainder of the image, which is more modern. It's like an inadvertent selective desaturation - without being one!

I actually like both, the only thing that might help the first one is a little bit of dodging to darken up the steam, at the moment it is a bit blown out. I still like the shot however.

the second one I just like the feel.

what do you mean by dodging ?

i presume it's something like darkening the smoke plume

I'm talking about the dodge and burn tool in Photoshop, It just lets you do selective darkening.

That's a great spot for getting train pics. Only 5 mins from home for me so we really enjoy that actual spot. Have spent a few weekends there when nothing else is on.

Great shots. Like the first better, but both have good contrast and colour :)
