Smoke !I haven't posted an image here in a long while so these are probably overdue. Looking for C&C.

Long time no see John, but WOW, these are some amazing shots. I particularly like #3 and #2, but they are all good. These have a... I'm not sure X-Ray / Sci-fi feel to them something a little different from the usual smoke pics.. I think because these are low key and usually they are posted as high key images ?
Pro’s
The first three shots are amazing - well executed and mesmerising Con’s The fourth shot does not hold up to the first three EDIT: Thanks Macka ![]() Last edited by sirhc55 on Tue May 08, 2007 7:54 pm, edited 1 time in total.

Did you say 'smoke' or 'wrought iron'? These look amazingly solid. I too would love to know how these were done, practically and (I'm guessing) in photoshop afterwards!
The fourth isn't bad - but it doesn't in fit with the style/tone of the prior three. Pentax istDS+K10D. Pentax 50mm f1.4, Sigma 10-20mm, Tamron 90mm f2.8 macro, Kit Lenses. http://www.redbubble.com/people/berndt2
this is really cool. reminds me of spiderman

Come follow the rabbit hole...
Craig the setup was quite simple. An absolutely draft free room (towels stuffed under the doors etc), a black background with a single plume of smoke (insense) about a metre in front of it. A single large white reflector on one side and three flashes on the other (I discovered that I needed heaps of light). I then used a Giotto Air Rocket to agitate the smoke in a fairly controlled manner.
PP was limited to sharpening and a backed off solarization filter. "The good thing about meditation is that it makes doing nothing respectable"

Lovely abstracts. I agree with NJ, almost looks like silk. The first one is the best IMO.
Did you use the same sharpening settings in all of them? #3 looks a little overdone compared to the others for some reason.
If these are the Con's, the Pro's must be pretty good. ![]() Cheers,

The same settings on them all Macka. I very rarely alter my normal settings (cos I forget to reset them
