I went to Silverchair last night, got a free ticket, so i thought i'd sneak my camera in. The bouncers were not impressed, so i ran away, into the concert with the camera, fat arses couldn't catch me


All taken with the sigma 18-200 f/3.5-6.3 -> Exif info for them was pretty similar, all around 100-200mm, f/5.6-6.3, ISO 1600-3200, 1/60-1/100th.










I was pretty impressed with the noise control of the D80 considering the ISO was consistantly 1600+ and pretty heavily cropped. The last one was 200mm, f6.3, 1/100, ISO 3200 and about a 50% crop

Harry - IMO the 2 B&W shots are the best and in particular #1 - it really has atmosphere

Fantastic shots! I especially like #4. Captured his expression/emotion very well.

Was the "High ISO noise reduction" setting turned on or off for these shots? The (limited) noise on these are a lot better than my ISO1600+ shots... perhaps due to the resize.

They must have had an impressive light set up for you to pull those shots off..

I had the NR turned off (always), I found the best way to eliminate noise when shooting RAW is firstly to slightly over expose the shots, then in PP to change the default settings for sharpness and luminance smoothing to: sharpness: 0 and Luminance smoothing: 100.
It is the sharpness bar that adds noise like a mofo!
While the resize does make a difference, even at full res, i was very impressed at the amount of noise. The noise on the last one looks like the amount of noise i see in the ISO 1600 shots on a 22" monitor.

I've always appreciated Silverchair's music ansd watched the amazing change and maturity in their music, especially Daniel John's experimenting. I bought the new album, "Young Modern" last month and it is an absolute masterpiece Can't rate it highly enough and would love to have been at the concert, that's for sure.
