impromptu la perouse outing

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

so it was mothers day, mom insisted on not doing anything. had to return a dvd to friend in darlinghurst, arrived at museum station ~4.20pm and hopped on the L94. first thing that popped into mind was hey - i could make it to some open water in 30-40mins!
so i caught the bus til the end and spent the arvo there. good time to relax and reflect/ponder..
stupid me decided to ditch the jacket and copped the chill unfortunately

managed to snap these three amongst many not so worthies:

EDIT: replaced with smaller filesize versions to comply.

very nice shots. love the silhouette of the boats and the composition.

i think the last one needs to be cropped back though, the sky at the very top doesn;t have enuf interest to require that much spacein the photo. you could even drastically crop it to give it a more landscape style.

you could also try a touch of fill light to bring out a little bit more brightness in the foreground without losing the siloutette effect but maybe bringing in a bit more detail. i would give it a crack to show you what i mean but i don;t know if the etiquette of this place allows others to adjust photos in PP.

nice shots...... but have you looked at cropping the sky to make much more interesting shots with a lot more impact....... 1: crop to a square 2: a long pano crop and a little lighter 3: crop to a 2 to 1 1/2 ratio to leave some sky or a tighter crop for a panno look......

I'm not really able to critique these images from the office, because the monitor here is so poor in terms of its colour rendition, but I would ask that you take a moiment to review the FAQ regarding posting of images, and in particular the points made about sizes, both in terms of image size (max of the longest side should be 800px) and file size (~120-150kb max).

These seem to be way OTT in that regard.

Thanx for your cooperation.

oh and gstark, regarding the attributes of the images, when i posted them i had that feeling in my head that there was something that might get me grilled for it. but i only remembered 800px at the time.

Number 2 for me judge jules. I'm a sucker for wide expansive skies. Also Ilove that intense blood orange color you managed to capture
