Todd

I see you've amended your number of embedded images after being requested by Geoff to do so, but note your commentary (sticking to the rules - sorry dial uppers). I just want to make something clear. The guidelines about a maximum of four images in a post aren't JUST about those on dial up, it's also about the fact that this isn't an image gallery or vanity posting site - that's what flickr or smugmug or pbase or whatever is for. Images should be posted here for two reasons - principally for review and critique and perhaps to give a taste of a recent portfolio of shots you have on your web site.

I have as big an ego as the next person and would love to share the best of the 6,466 images from my trip to NZ last February, but I resist the urge to bore everyone shitless on the forum. For me 4 images allows me plenty of latitude to give a flavour of the work without overdoing it. If the work is good enough it will entice people to go to my SmugMug site for more.

Finally I find any more than a small number of images in a post impossible to critique and suspect others may be the same but then maybe I'm just getting old

Edit: To make sure no one misunderstands my comments above. I am not suggesting Todd is egotistical, a vanity poster or boring us shitless with his images. What I am saying is that the posting guidelines are to ensure that people who may fit into that category don't impact on our pleasure in viewing images here.

And now for some commentary on your images:

#1 - good use of the lens to distort the image for dramatic effect. I'd like to see a little more detail in the horse - perhaps a curve adjustment

#2 - great image and well suited to black and white. Nice composition - I get the feeling these guys are ready for my dinner plate

#3 - doesn't excite me. The background donkey pulls me away from the foreground one. And his ears have been chopped off (ouch)

#4 - I'm not sure what the image is about for this one I guess. It's composition is a slittle sloppy (too much space at top, car chopped off etc). And yes I know there are a whole lot of dogs in a cage. It had the ptential to be like #2, but doesn't realise that potential.

#5 - I like this a lot. Only tiny (and it's a very tiny) niggle is that I'd have liked a shot without the tree. can't have everything

#6 - Composition again for me. I'd have straightened or cropped to remove the beam in the bottom left corner. I'm not really sure this image suits the B & W conversion either.

#7 - Superb. great DOF, well exposed, well composed.
