Did some more experimenting with a single light source (SB800).

Would love to get some C&C on this one.

For what I can see, it is a very beautiful picture that needs no improvement. I like it as it is.

Much, much better, the light is still a little bit harsh right at the top of the cheek and it could do with just a little more fill on the right hand side, but you are definately on the right track

Pro’s

Beautiful lighting
Very nice DOF
Two points about Asian ladies - beautifully smooth skin and full lips - full of character

Con’s

These are personal comments only:

The lady is shown with bare skin so I find the head gear does not compliment her features

The shadow of the earing could be cloned out

The unkempt hair on the right viewing shoulder is distracting

Overall a very nice portrait :)

Thanks Marco and Chris.

Chris - thanks a lot for the detailed input. This is really helpful, once again!

The point about the shadow from the earring is a very good one and now that you mentioned I do find it destractive to the eye. The same goes for the unkempt hair on the right.

What I also find a bit of a con for this photo is that the composition feels somewhat squashed as perhaps more space on either side would give it a better feel.

It is amazing how much you can learn from a simple home set-up such as this one, especially about the lighting and the little things that get overlooked, e.g. unkempt hair.

Cheers
Alex
