This was my first serious play with my new 105 Micro. I already think it's great, but serious macro work is a whole new ballpark for me.

Photo is as shot, just resized for the forum. I accidentally had it set to JPG only, so I can't really do much PP anyway. The detritus would not brush off

CS3 allows you to adjust the exposure in JPEGs and CS2 allows you to do everything else bar adjust the exposure, so in reality there is a lot you can do to your JPEG.

The 105 macro Nikor is a lens I am looking at as well.

You will love the 105 Mr Darcy. I could not be happier with mine. First lense I bought.
I like the detritus as it is very hard to find fungi without some attached.
Not a bad dof for a group shot. I would tend to take longer exposures if I had a tripod on hand.

I did try longer exposures as well as shorter, but I felt that the background became increasingly distracting with greater DOF. I felt this one was the best compromise.
As I said, I have a significant learning curve ahead of me. I will stick to slowly moving subjects for now. The Mushies are about right, though they moved quite quickly not long after I took the shot. I was collecting firewood at the time.

Careful of the smoke
I will some times cheat with a little pp on the background.
So long as you enjoy yourself that is all that counts.
