posing myself

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

posing myself

I tried taking photographs of myself today (since I got a haircut)

Image

I wanted to open the aperture to make it shallower depth of field, but the main problem is with focussing - what's the best way to focus on myself when I'm running backwards and forwards to press the shutter button then running back to pose.
I tried a number of different "poses", what are the techniques/tips of posing?
My friend said that I should be more natural.

Adam, to focus, I would suggest mark the floor where you are going to stand, and try to manually focus to that position.

In terms of pose, others have a better idea than me

You should get yourself a remote control so that you dont have to run back and forth...

For focusing, use a tripod, pole or something tall, focus on that, change into manual focus so it stays there, and just remove the tripod/pole when you take the photo. Unless you want the pole to be with you in the shots

Regarding posing, it is all about what type of photograph you want to achieve, general advise is to keep strong eye contacts, and natural shape of the body, or if you want to experiment with those artistic looks, bend what it can be bent... cross them if you can... its very broad meaning, but just experiment and get some inspirations around the net, there should be plenty to fill your taste. :)

Thanks Reschsmooth and Yi-P

Those tips were very helpful Yi-P, things I will certainly think about and keep in mind! I shall meditate on those! putting the pole there is also a good idea!

I shall try more after exams!

You could try doing some "pole dancing". That would get some attention. :D

Haha cool methd :) Perhaps we lived very nearby! :P

If I had a pole there to dance around, it would solve the focus guessing also :) I'll try it, for you. After exams!!!!!!!! :D
