Moonrise/sunset at Nobbys
Hi,
I have been meaning to get this photo for a while but could never quite time it right. It still not perfect for where I want the moon but it's pretty close. As the moon was rising, the sun was setting behind me. This is Nobbys Head lighthouse in Newcastle. Photo was taken from Stockton. 
D200, 300mm, 1/15s, f5.6, tripod. There is no cropping and a bit of curves adjustment. I have some blown highlights on the moon but I'll try to recover some of that. Love the colours and composition Andre. The bright yelloy section in top right quadrant of the moon looks a little too vibrant and out of character with the rest of the moon's tone. I'm not sure if it is just my screen though it is calibrated.

I also see this yellow problem on the moon (something like overexpose), this photo have a good composition and quite industrial style fighting with romantic moonlight, nice kind of shot
 Next time try avoid overexpose or use HDR solution
I'm seeing the same yellowing effect with a calibrated monitor. Love the shot but that yellowing is a bit distracting. Andre, was it a result of some PP you did on the rest of the shot or was it due to some kind of atmospheric condition at the time (ie the way you actually saw it)?

Love the colours and the mood. The moon is an awkward spot though and I would have preferred the image taken from a different position so that it sat higher in the sky. Nearly a bloody masterpiece!

I did blow the highlights in the upper rh of the moon, I'll see if I can recover some of that. As for the yellow colour of the moon, that is smog that sort of floats over the ocean in winter when a westerly wind blows over Newcastle. The moon wasn't very high off the horizon so I was photographing it through that haze. Twenty minutes later and the moon is out of that haze but my then, it's out of the "photo" and the effect I was going for. Camrak, I'lll try putting it through photomatix and see what I get. Matt, as you say, it would have been nicer with the moon being higher. Now I know where to position myself for next time, third time lucky
