Went down to the Coffs Stadium this afternoon and shot some images in fading but beautiful light, Australia A versus Western Samoa, with the Canon 70-200 F2.8 IS.

Max,

love the second one, great focus, sharp, very nice comp. On the first one, I find the colours a bit flat but really like the action and the shadow of the kicker.

Looks like you are having fun with that lens :D

cheers,

André

Yeah, having lots of fun, bu footy games from the crowd are really hard, always someone walking front of you. As for the colour, this one is severely compressed for size sake, it's much better in the original.

Second is great, though a little more background separation (smaller DOF) would really make it pop.

You could PP it in of course.

She was wide open at 2.8 so I couldn't get any more out of her...

For some strange reason Jethro I only ever use my camera in manual mode, must be a control thing.... :)

Might just give it a try Jethro.

There were several official photographers there tonight (all with white Canon lens) and they didn't seem to be getting much action at all, they either were using 500mm or 600mm prime lens and one had a 70-200 on a second body.

I would love a 400 which is more than ample for sport.
I shoot with the 70-200 with the 2x converter. Bit slow of the mark but when it tracks with focus it still gets a great result

The shadow on the first one looks really good! Didn't notice it first time around :)

Yes, the shadow is quite funny I think, would make a good advertising logo or something...

Terrific stuff Max. I haven't tried my hand at sports togging (haven't got the lenses for it). Be interesting to see your results when you take Jethro's advice re Sports Mode. :)
