Crap weather in NZ

Well this is actually Stubbsy in NZ Pt 11, but I figure the title was more expressive. Not that I'm complaining. During our 3 weeks in NZ we had maybe 4 crap weather days. Sadly 2 were in Franz Josef and 1 was at Milford Sound. Here is a sample of the best I could make do with the conditions at Milford Sound. More are
HERE.
This is a place called Mirror Lakes which in reality seems to be more a spot for tour buses to stop if they know you'll see nothing at Milford Sound (and if I had a $ for every time our driver told us how lucky we were because it was raining and so we'd see lot's of water falls I could afford to fly there from here when I know the weather is good!)
Sailing the sounds. Not a lot of colour to the shot so I did a B & W conversion
Even the local wildlife couldn't be bothered dealing with the weather
And just to see the scale of this place. That is a 2 story high tour boat near the waterfall

The B&W shot is lovely! I'd like to see it printed on archival matte paper at about 100cm x 70cm. It would sing! What's wrong with those sheep on the rocks?

Peter,
Milford Sound is great, regardless of the weather.
I also love the b&w photo. Great composition and conversion. Nice catch on the first with the reflection and the rainbow.
cheers,
André

Absolutely stunning, Peter.
Either the scenery is so beautiful it makes it easy to get good photographs or you have an eye for it. I'm thinking probably the latter.

All great. 1 & 2 are my picks.. Love the rainbow and reflections in 1, and the mood in 2, and the boat adds great scale.

The 2nd and 4th pics shows why NZ was picked for filming LOTR! For crap weather, you've certainly brought the best out of the situation.

Wonderful images Peter.
Love the rainbow reflection. Nice B&W conversion. Interesting
wildlife and great scale definition in the last one.
Cheers, Mick

If anyone wasn't sure about visiting NZ then they just need to browse through your recent NZ posts. They show NZ for what it is, one of the most amazing countries in the world, and its almost in our backyard. Keep the shots coming.

These are all superb Peter. You have certainly used the crap weather to your advantage.

Thank you all for your comments. Last night I booked a return visit to NZ for October and intend revisiting both the glaciers and Milford Sound. Fingers crossed I'll get better weather (or maybe I'm just a masochist). At less than $500 return the airfares make NZ a bargain travel destination.

Sweet, but not the best time of year to go to try avoid rain though Peter. (Spring Rains.) Could make for some really nice images though.

Wow, the black and white one is superb. The first one is really good as well. The simplicity of it and the colors plus the rainbow effect.
But yeah black and white one for me

NOW you tell me. The reality is I'm heading back with a friend and that's the only time they can make it. If the weather is crap again c'est la vie.
