Stubbsy in NZ - Pt 12

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

Stubbsy in NZ - Pt 12

What more of those #$% NZ pics I hear you say.

These are the penultimate batch, taken on the leg from Wanaka to Lake Tekapo via Mount Cook (AKA Aoraki). While at Lake Tekapo we splashed out and flew the Grand Traverse (note URL is dead as I write this with a server error! Here is the google cache if you are interested). This flight leaves from Lake Tekapo, flies over Aoraki and Tasman then on to circle over Franz Josef & Fox Glaciers then back to base. Awesome views, but not cheap.

There are more from this area in my gallery HERE

This is where the melt from Aoraki and Tasman glacier flows down to Lake Tekapo. Not much water there in February since the snow was long gone.

Image

Water from Lake Tekapo is used for hydro power with a huge and quite long canal to funnel the turquoise coloured water from the lake to the power station

Image

Up close & personal with Aoraki. At 3,754 metres this is is the tallest mountain in New Zealand and dwarfs Australia's tallest (Mount Kosciuszko which is 2228 metres). We were lucky that the cloud wasn't over the peak (if you look closely on the left you can see where the cloud layer is BELOW the mountain peak).

These are great Stubbsy. I stopped for a similar shot to #4 when we were there. Mnt Cook out of the aircraft is just awsome.

They're all very good - but the first one is sensational. Such great colours with the rocky textures.

One of my favourite areas in all the world Stubbsy, and you have done it justice with these exquisite images. Most enjoyable. Man, perusing this forum is a lot of fun.

Beautiful photos Peter, love them all. The third would be my favourite if I had to pick one.

The few times I have been close to Mt Aoraki, it's always been covered in cloud. I'll have to fly above the clouds next time. It is a great part of the world, thanks for sharing.

Cheers,

André

Magnificent, they are some of the few shots I have seen come back from NZ (from other people) that truly do it's beauty justice. Your shots are awesome.

Once again, they are gorgeous images Peter. It's sad that we are almost at the end of your journey. :(

Thank you all for your comments. I personally have a fondness for the last image yet it seems to break so many photographic rules (not rule of thirds, no strong foreground etc.)

And for those getting bored with NZ - I promise Part 13 WILL be the last from this visit

I should mention I'm back there later in the year for 10 days - south Island only this time with a non photographer friend.
