David,

It looks great, especially the out of focus background. The only detraction is the head and eyes do not look sharp. I can't tell whether they are out of focus or it is the reflection in the eye that is out of focus.

Thanks Andrew,

I agree, it's an interesting one. the legs are in focus so it's really hard to tell.

I'm pretty sure the eye is in focus and it's the reflection off the compound eye that's blurry, but the shoulders seem to be not 100%...

Great shot.

I've had trouble in the past too getting dragonfly eyes looking sharp. Couldn't work out why.

I think it's because they have a compound eye with causes lots reflections which makes the eye look blurry.

They are the most difficult things to photograph. It's a beautiful image. Just a little more DOF and it would have been a masterpiece!

Thanks again guys

It was a bit of luck - taken with the 17-50 2.8 (didn't have the macro with me at the time) - There were hundreds but they kept flying away when I got too close. This one was slightly braver and I ended up taking the shot with the camera at full arms reach in front of me - trying to see through the viewfinder from a meter away and make sure the autofocus was in the right place.
