Some photos from my archives

Hadn't really had a chance to shoot for a while due to work commitments. So I decided to look at my archives and see what I may have missed. Lo and behold there were quite a few. Here are the three I processed during the weekend and a short note why I picked them
. What did I learn from this? As I continue to learn about photography I see my old photos in a new light.

I really like how the light created a strong contrast of the side profile of my friends face making for some good grey tones.

This photo looked rather plain to me until I noticed how the light was falling on the sand creating some interesting shadows.

I started thinking in black/white and saw the potential of the beautiful tones this image would present than in color. What also caught my eye was composition, the shallow depth of field plus the simplicity of the expression on her face.

Agreed on all three counts - each of the three very different images is certainly highly 'worthy'.

I'm not sure if my archives would yield similar treasure. I suspect not, but could be something for a rainy day.

The last shot is priceless. Normally i can't stand pics of kids as I've been inundated with images of them over the years from proud parent/friends, but this one is excellent.

#1 is a cool shot and I like the tight composition, but I'm not too sure about the processing. Correct me if I'm wrong, but have you smoothed the skin or is it just shallow DOF? It looks a bit odd where on her nose near her eye there is all this texture, but just a little further down there is none.

#2 doesn't do a whole lot for me, but I think #3 is a lovely portrait. Perhaps you could lighten the eyes a little. otherwise, very nice.

Cheers

I love #3, is the kind of photo that captures a moment of childhood and can't be 'posed' (or, if it is, it looks very natural to me)

My archives would be the same as BT*ist, not many treasures like these hiding in there

You would be correct macka. the affected area had a couple of blemishes that was too distracting so I decided to smooth it out. I really wanted the shot to focus more on the texture, highlights and shadow on her face.

Thanks for the c&c everyone. I really appreciate them
