Went out with a friend today looking for birds along the Beach front. We drove down to a headland, through one of the many national parks, with a small cliff about 2.5 meters from the water. As we looked up and down my mate said just back up quitely, as we were standing about 35 to 40cm from this fellow....... don't know where the head was but the Bigma was my lens of choice for this shot........ we then moved on and left our friend in peace........

Crikey! I bet you loosened more than your camera grip Bernie! Can't tell the species (maybe a small-eyed?) but certainly best left alone. Try and get a better shot next time will ya?!

Stuff the Bigma, you should have used a macro and got right on in there This time of year it would be docile, until it strikes at you.

been looking up snake sites and this may be an eastern brown, as they come in different shades of dark and brown and the weather down here has warmed up during the day....... the brown spots on this one makes it a maybe to me, not far from skin shreading...... I can be corrected...... but I was in a forest near the ocean, a known area for browns........ might start taking pixs of birds from boats

Argh!

Once Pat and I were on holiday in Hawk's Nest on the North Coast of NSW and a snake crawled across the path to the beach right in front of us. It was only a python though. Still, they are creepy. I can't remember if we took photos but they would be on film if we had.

Seems rather larger for a common brown.

b.est to stay away or relocate with a shovel..my prefered method.

nice clear photo. I have a few pet snakes so i am fine with them but some people have an unnessesary fear brought about by wild folklaw type stories that a happend to a friend of a friend

Just wondering how big it was. To me it definatly looks like a diamond python - yellow spot on the majority of the scales is a good indicator but i still wouldn't play with it just incase. This time of year most snakes will be pretty slow at the best of times.
