Nearly 12 months on i finally got to have a play with some images i took last winter.
I'm pretty happy with the result of this one but there's something that just doesn't quite sit right with me. Not sure if it's blown highlights (it was an overcast snowy day and i didn't use fill flash) or the composition (possibly a little to top heavy?
Would appreciate some C&C.

For me, the blown hightlights detract from the image. I do like the composition. Is that a rope/tape in the large tree trunk? If it is, I'd look at cloaning that out.
If you shot this in RAW, you may be able to recover some of the highlight, maybe, by using HDR. I know that Photomatix is pretty good at it, even with just one image.
You should also try it in B&W, I think that this would suit a b&w conversion.
cheers,
André

Beautiful shot but to me the WB looks off. The tree trunks look way too warm for this type of environment.

Thanks for the feedback.
Geoff,
I just tweaked the colour balance a little more towards the blue side and i think it looks a bit more natural.

I like this shot a lot. The warmth of the tree trunks coupled with the snow is a beautiful contrast. The backdrop, being so called blown, does not worry me at all as it keeps the main subject(s) in contrast. My only CQ would be that there is a tad too much cyan in the snow (average 15%) which can be reduced in
PS with a colour balance adjustment.

The contrasting colours make this shot. The tree bark on these snow gums is spectacular. Like the composition too and crop works well. perhaps a little more play with levels/curves might add to the punch laying latent in that bark.
