These are not brilliant pics but i am always trying to attempt to shoot in different/difficult light/locations and I took these whilst on the train to work last week ,(v/line Diesel service) i was in the last carriage and tried to take some images through the end door window unfortunately it was very grubby on the outside so the muck you see is on it and not on my sensor/lens (D2x &10-20)

Just another experiment and most people are used to seeing me with my camera ! and take little notice

The last image taken in the carriage i cropped as you can see but don't think it makes much difference

Shame about the dirty windows, but I do like the sense of movement imparted in the first two. I think the second works even better than the first in this regard, maybe because of the tree on the rh side.


Not sure about 3 and 4 ... they're good from an exposure and documentary PoV, but they don't grab me.

For me #3 tells a story and I prefer it to the crop. The person reading in isolation along with great shadow and highlights in confusion lend a loneliness to this shot

Following from Chris's comments .... I'd like to see a different crop of #3:

Crop the lady on the right completely out of the image, and then crop the top of the image using a line a bit below the emergency door release above the gentlman's head.

Yes - but I would not crop the left at all

A bit closer ??maybe a bit too much left in on the left so to speak ??

As Chris said, no cropping of the left. The second of these has nailed it, and now, yes, you've nailed it.

But there's one, important question that needs answering: which of these crops do you prefer? After all, it's your image!

Hope you don't mind but I've had a slight attack of the croppsies as well. I kinda liked the receding carriage out to the left so kept it in. Happy to remove this image if you wish.

im amazed u have the courage to take pics on the train, i hate the funny looks even if i just review images in-camera whilst im on the train.

It's when you ask them to wear costumes and pose in particular ways that you really get the weird looks...
