At first, we were pretty excited when we saw squirrels on our trip. However, by the end of the 4 weeks, it was "huh. Another squirrel".

This one is a Golden-mantled ground squirrel, taken at the top of Sulpher Mountain in Banff (Canadian Rockies)

I got this little guy next to Two Jack Lake, which is about 10-15 min drive from Banff. This one is a Columbian Ground Squirrel. They are pretty bold, and hover around the picnic tables to get scraps of food.

As you can see in this next shot, taken by Mrs Losfp with her D70s + 18-200VR, they are not afraid of humans AT ALL.

They are usually very cheeky when you come across them at parks. As you say, they are good scavengers.

Love the shot of the second one.

cheers,

André

Really like the second one - you generally only see them either standing still, or sprinting full-tilt. This is a really nice one.

Cheeky buggers...

That second shot was probably taken only a second or two either side of shot # 3 taken by my wife.
