Hi,
lately, there has been a black shouldered kite hanging around the neighbourhood. This morning, it decided to come close to my house. These shots were taken from a room upstairs at our place, just inside a sliding door
Looking at me
Looking sideways
They were taken with the D200, 300f4 with 1.7TC. First one was wide open, that's f6.7 with the TC and the second was at f7.1 since you lose 1.5 stops with the TC. It is approx 50% crop. Here is the full frame photo.
Given that I was in the uppper storey in my house, it basically put me at eye level.
C&C appreciated.
Cheers,
André

Lovely images André, and nice of the guy to sit there and pose for you as easy as you like.

Andre - great capture of a very healthy specimen. You just have to be in the right position at the right time.

Love the first pic - it looks as though the kite is looking right through you... or sizing you up for a meal

Excellent work, Andre. The eye contact is great. I like the detail in the first but also like the full frame version as it shows the context.

Wow, some of us have to travel far away to get out into the bush, you have the wildlife coming to you!
Great captures, fine details in the feathers are visible. That's getting really close!

These are great Andrè - good colour contrast between subject and background and wonderfully sharp - especially the first 2. Good when the subjects come to you too.

Stunners André. Well done. 300 with the TC gets you nice and close.
Good detail too.

Thanks heaps for the replies,
I was lucky that it decided to pose just outside my door, literally
I almost didn't see it since at the time, I was watching a sea eagle in the distance.
I was plesantly surprised as to the detail I was able to get with my 300f4+TC. I always knew it was sharp but having it on a tripod made a big difference.
hyperhiryu, the black shouldered kite would be a bit larger then your average pigeon. They are a very nice bird.
It certainly was nice to get it eye to eye.
Cheers,
André

Hi Andre
You were lucky to be so close to this magnificent bird of prey.
My fave is the first shot.
