Des' Alaska/Canada Trip #14 - Whales
Posted: Tue Aug 14, 2007 9:46 pmDuring our Alaskan cruise, we were lucky enough to spot humpback whales on 3 separate days. On the first two days, we were again lucky enough to have whales coming up literally right beside the ship - close enough to feel their breath on your face!!
On the 3rd day that we saw whales, there was a mother and calf swimming side by side, and diving together. Unfortunately it was late evening and dark as hell.. I didn't bother trying to take photos that night.
This last one is not a great shot, but it is as much as I could fit in the frame at 120mm (70 x 1.7) which gives you an indication of how close a couple of them came. This one must have swam under the ship and came up probably 5 metres from the side.
