During our Alaskan cruise, we were lucky enough to spot humpback whales on 3 separate days. On the first two days, we were again lucky enough to have whales coming up literally right beside the ship - close enough to feel their breath on your face!!

On the 3rd day that we saw whales, there was a mother and calf swimming side by side, and diving together. Unfortunately it was late evening and dark as hell.. I didn't bother trying to take photos that night.

This last one is not a great shot, but it is as much as I could fit in the frame at 120mm (70 x 1.7) which gives you an indication of how close a couple of them came. This one must have swam under the ship and came up probably 5 metres from the side.

Always is a special treat to see the whales. My favourite would be the first. However, check your WB on it, colours are not quite right on my monitor here.

Getting the whale breaching is also special.

Cheers,

André
