although i think the lightign is pretty much flat regardless of what you tried to do even if the light is on the side or at the extrreme top bounce light from surrounds can flatten dont think the lightsource has been positioned in the right place to get the atypical hollywood lighting look
you need to get looser with your experimentation and really throw away the math and technical stuff to get creative with lighting, just let go of all your conceptions and really move that light around then when you have a understanding of light you can re-introduce the math and all the technical stuff

agree, I err on safety and technical rather than experimenting. I know this, and acknoledge it, as I get bored with what I am doing somehtings... I look forward to pushing myself to experiment more.
