it's my favorite from about 300 photos yesterday, wouldn't mind some feedback on it!

handheld (one hand), flash in other hand, 10.5mm fish

we had a bit of an organised meet to go ride around the city in adelaide, so between 50 - 100 riders showed up and we just had a bit of a ride around adelaide. it was interesting shooting... i basically put my fisheye on, taped a pocketwizard to a flash, and had camera in one hand flash in the other...

if your interested, more photos are at blog.ugzine.com

also,

is this shot too compromised by the sun flare?

Great timing..... I'm just not a lover of fisheye for action shots.

The "youngies" will love them I'm sure...... :D

I like it! My work monitor is miscalibrated so it looks like there's a bit too much foreground in the first shot, but that may not be the case. I'd possibly increase the contrast slightly?

I don't mind the sun flare in the second one - I like the framing - the height of the cyclist and the 'depth' of the fall they're facing if it all goes wrong!

not sure about the calibration issue, but i think you're right about foreground...

10.5 fish introduces compositional problems you never knew existed... my feet are in the shot!

its probably worthy of a square crop or something.

(you may also notice my flash hand in the other shot!)

I'd like to see some of this action, captured with the fisheye, but from a lower position. These friends of yours are absolutely taking flight, but the back ground doesnt do it justice.

what I mean is, you get lower then them (and with a fisheye, that might be as easy as taking a knee), while still showing the horizon, or skid rail, or edge of jump, compose when these guys are in full blue sky, showing blue sky clear underneath them, would refect the kind of air they are getting!!!

back onto these shots, I like the one witht eh sun behind. for an action shot, not that easy to position the rider... with my 10.5, I often get my feet, or left forearm in the shot, so kind of lean forward when you shoot to minimise getting "you" in the shot.
