The View from the Top

Pat and I went on our first snow-shoeing expedition last Saturday. We both enjoyed it so much I suspect it will be the first of many.

We started just north of here, the bottom of Perisher Valley:

We then walked from Perisher Valley to Porcupine Rocks and were rewarded with a spectacular view from the top.

Here is Pat climbing the last few rocks to the top:

And this is what he saw when he got there. This is looking SE towards Bullocks Flat:

Here is the opposite view looking back towards the main range:

We were very lucky to get to the top just a little while before it clouded over; the weather was amazing.

Comments welcome.

Snowshoeing is a lot of fun isn't it :D :D :?:

Love the last two and particularly the b&w version of the third.

On the first one, I'd crop a bit off the bottom.

cheers,

André

Hey thanks André, yeah, snow-shoeing is awesome. I was very surprised at how much I enjoyed it, but I loved it. And it's nice that it doesn't require any special technique - you just walk - and generally in an amazing location.

Cheers

Third shot is amazing - I actually prefer the colour version as it gives a greater sense of perspective (in terms of looking down from your vantage point and the vast expanse to the horizon).

#3 and #4 are my picks from this bunch. Sounds like you had lots of fun.

Thanks guys.

Yes, I can't stress enough how fun this was. 8) I wanna go again!

Ozimax, it's actually pretty warm while you are walking; you get hot trudging up the hills! Especially while the sun's out. It's when you stop moving that you get a bit cold, but if you come prepared it's fine.

It's the sky that makes these shots. It's stunning (not that i'm saying there is anything wrong with the rest of the scenery).

#4 is the pick for me... it seems to give an overall feeling of sheer vastness. Kinda nice when you work in a city and spend all day surrounded by thousands of muppets.

#4 is just great. One of those shots that for encapsulates where I'd prefer to be. love the way its almost only 3 colours.

I like # 3 as well but think the left side is a little heavy and maybe a crop with less foreground (sideground??),

Thanks for putting them up- made my day a little nicer. i love the snowies.
