Really great shots here.. Looks like you had some decent light to work with :)

What was your choice of lens?

I'm shooting at the Metro tomorrow, have you shot there before? I need some quick tips!

have never shot at the metro, infact i have only ever shot one gig outside canberra.

Tips...

depending on the light i shoot at -1/3-2/3 of a stop in Ap mode at f2.8 usually, if the lighting is good enough to shoot at 800iso dont go any higher.

Looking at your lenses you may struggle with the kit lens so maybe just use the 70-200.

My shots were mainly shot with the 70-200 with a couple of the wider shots done with the 28-70

And dont be afraid to rattle off a heap of shots. on tuesday night i took over 900 shots on the night but deleted about 200 on camera then another 100 at home.

Cool thanks mate.

I sure hope I don't need to go over 800, 1250-1600 ain't pretty on the D70!

Wish I had a D3!

i used to shoot on a d70... its a cow over 800, such bad grain. also with the d70 it really really hates red lighting, so if there is alot of it you may need to underexpose by at least a stop..

Yeah you're not wrong! My first gig was shot at 1600, big mistake.

I now shoot in Manual, leave it on f2.8 and use VR, then find a shutter/ISO combo. Haven't shot at Metro before, so don't know the space or lighting :?

Just have to wing it I guess.

Is it best to use AF-C or AF-S focus mode? I haven't had much of a play with this at a gig.

i use AF-S and as of about 2 hours before the powderchair gig now have my camera set on focus lock mode, ie it wont take a shot unless it has focus... needless to say i had alot more sharp shots.

Awesome work Thommo. The light in these is fantastic and really adds to the shots. The first and last are the pick for me.

These and your other latest band images really show how much you've improved of late and I doubt it's due to the new camera alone. Thanks for sharing these.

Possibly the best set of band photos I've seen. Well done. Nicely lit, with great moments captured.

1st and 3rd pics are some of the best I've seen of Daniel Johns in action. Great use of backlighting

Wow, they look great. I shot them when they were in Perth using a Sigma 18-200 f/3.5-6.3 - Not pretty! I ended up shooting ISO1600-3200 the whole night!

These are brilliant!
